Adorning this soldier's field cap, between the cockades, is the unique "Karpatenabzeichen" issued in 1917. The Austro-Hungarian Emperor gave the insignia to the 1st and 200th infantry division, which formed the Karpatenkorps under the command of the k.u.k. 7th Army.
