NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Stocks turned mixed Thursday morning, giving up bigger morning losses after weak sales results from Wal-Mart Stores and other retailers combined with jitters about the forthcoming December jobs report.
The Dow Jones industrial average (INDU) lost 0.3%, the Standard & Poor's 500 (SPX) index was little changed and the Nasdaq composite (COMP) gained 0.4%.
